Nurses looking into becoming a Holistic Nurse Coach or Health and Wellness Coach often wonder how much money they can make?
The realistic answer is…. It depends! I say that because it really depends on you and the career path you choose.
There are so many career paths to consider. Nurse Coaches work in clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, businesses, remote and private practice to name a few. Let’s look at these areas and what types of incomes they bring.
Salary Rundown for Nurse Coaches
The information I am about to give you is based on current job boards, companies hiring, and additional research…. And for the purposes of this blog, it is based on the RN and BSN credentials as they are the most common. Please understand that exact salaries depend on experience, where you live, and how well you negotiate.
Let’s take a look at a few areas a Nurse Coach might work.
Clinics, Hospitals, and Insurance Companies
Nurse coaching is growing, and the salary is in accordance with experience, location, and demand. These positions are considered “expanded nursing roles”, so the pay is typically your negotiated nursing salary. Hospitals seem to be the higher paying of the three.
Check out local job boards…. or not so local if you want to relocate. LinkedIn and the direct company website are also good options.
Corporations and Businesses
Corporate Health Coach businesses do hire nurse coaches to promote health and wellness for employees and their families. These companies’ contract with other companies who have/need worksite wellness programs. The average salary for a corporate wellness coach in the U.S. is between $30.00 and $42.00 per hour based on experience and location.
Some companies hire a wellness nurses/nurse coaches/wellness coaches specifically for their company and these companies pay well. Manufacturing companies among others typically have wellness centers.
Remote Nurse Coaching
This is any company willing to let you work in your own home and coach clients.
Pay range varies as this is a broad area with different employers; however, the average full-time pay range is between $51,000-$125,000 plus per year.
Why such a large pay range? Location, demand, credentials, and experience affect pay ranges considerably. You would have to look at job boards, apply, and go through the interview process to pinpoint an exact salary. Remember negotiation is key.

Private Practice / Nurse Health Coach Business
Having your own Nurse Coaching Business is where it is ALL up to you. If you search this online, you are going to see claims that you can make $10,000 and more in a month. Although this may be possible, it’s not realistic when you are first starting out. (See business of nurse coaching tips for a successful launch).
As with any business it solely depends on your determination, your marketing ability, how you manage your business, and if you are meeting a need or your target population (a.k.a. niche).
