Let Go, Nurse Coach

(post) Let Go, Nurse Coach

Let Go, Nurse Coach, it’s always easier said than done, and yet, as I have learned through my 10 years as a board-certified Integrative Nurse Coach, letting go of someone else’s outcome is so freeing!

I LOVE Groups. There is so much power in them. Sharing, insight, hope, connection, creativity and so many more characteristics that allow our clients, patients, and communities to thrive.

Some of you may think… oh noooo, being in front of a group is so scary! Yes, and absolutely no.

Imagine a Boat Anchor

How about if you imagine a boat anchor. What does it do? Its purpose is to hold a boat steady, steadfast, so it doesn’t drift off in a meaningless and perhaps perilous direction of a controlling tide.

Now, let’s pull the anchor analogy into a group coaching session. YOU become the anchor, you are creating stability, steadfastness and keeping the boat moving in a safe direction, without you and your dedication, the boat could be at risk of sinking. With your direction, the group is safe, steady, and stable.

You are the anchor for a Group Coaching session. You are not the leader or the facilitator, or the One. Instead, you are the purposeful anchor who keeps the space safe, you keep it directed and moving in an agreed upon direction.

When you can let go of being a ‘perfect leader’ or the ‘one in charge’ and instead, allow the group to ebb and flow and maintain the safe and supported space, it allows you to become freer and more open to encourage the group’s power to safely thrive.

How Can You Let Go?

And how can you let go? To be the anchor and not get in the way of the magical power of the group.

One beautiful awareness practice comes to mind from the Integrative Nurse Coach® Academy’s Integrative Nurse Coach® Certificate Program (INCCP), it’s called, ‘Let Go’.

Awareness practices (also known as guided meditations) can help us move from anxiety and worry to calm and connection to your inner wisdom. There is a ton of science to support mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) techniques and the Integrative Nurse Coach® Academy believes in its credibility so much that you will learn techniques and tools to help you feel confident in using MBSR in nurse coaching sessions and for yourself in the Integrative Nurse Coach® Certificate Program (INCCP).

‘Let Go’ Represents a Moment in Time

For me, ‘Let Go’ represents a moment in time where I can fully focus on myself and one thing to release. The ‘Let Go’ awareness practice is only 5 minutes long. You have the time, and you can do it anywhere.

Let’s Do It Together

Let’s do it together.  Watch the video above and be sure to leave a comment about what you noticed in yourself afterwards.  Your comments help support our work, and likely your words of wisdom will inspire another Nurse and fellow human in their life journey.

I’ve also included a Printable Script you can use to practice, and you can also find this script in the award-winning textbook, Nurse Coaching: Integrative Approaches to Health and Wellbeing.
