The International Nurse Coach Association honors all nurses for their contributions, creativity, and innovations as leaders in transforming health care in today’s changing environment. During Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2014, we celebrate our nursing legacy with Florence Nightingale
INCA Associate Faculty Instructor Diana Blom reflects on her experience facilitating the first Integrative Nurse Coach Certificate Program at Harmony Hill in early April.
My journey on the path towards health and well-being wholeness, has been a remarkable one. What began for me as
It was the summer of 2011 when I first decided that I needed to pursue wellness coaching to sustain my path in the field of environmental and occupational health nursing- although I had no idea the role of “holistic nurse coach” even existed. That summer I completed my Masters in Community and Public Health Nursing with a capstone project in New Orleans, leading a public health coalition focused on addressing the health impacts of the British Petroleum Oil Spill in the Gulf Coast. It was the largest manmade disaster in history: 4.2 million barrels of crude oil leaked, and 1.8 million gallons of chemical dispersants were applied to assist in cleanup.
Like Integrative Nurse Coaches, Nightingale was concerned with the most basic needs of human beings and all aspects of the environment (clean air, water, food, housing, etc.)—local to global.
